Founded in 1975, the company started life with two salesmen, two drivers and one bookkeeper.The goals of the company were to provide the trade with an extensive range of quality components,including hard-to-find items, and to maintain a technical ability and depth of knowledge greater than any opposition company. Over the years this successful philosophy was developer to the point where a vast range of performance parts of both street and track use are stocked, and the company leads the field in technical ability, having proved this on the race tracks of South Africa. Masterparts is the only wholesaler offering a full range of both standard and performance parts, and as a result has the largest range of engine components in South Africa.
Masterpieces enjoyed a steady growth during the late 70`s, and in 1980 a branch was opened in Voortrekker Road, Bellville. At around this time the company re-entered motor racing, supporting oval track in all classes. The late 80`s was a period of enormous growth in South Africa, and particularly in the motor trade. Inflation was high and the continuous threat of sanctions caused increasing problems in maintaining a continuous supply of stock. Fortunately Masterpieces had solid relationships with many supplies who went out of their way to ensure stock flowed continually, and these have developed into the strong friendships that exist today. In this regard Masterpieces are proud that they have won Key distributor awards for the past ten years, and have recently been awarded The International Diamond Star Award.
In line with the evolutionary changes that were obviously going to sweep South Africa, Masterpieces embarked on a long term plan of continuous staff visits to factories and trade fairs,to equip the staff with the practical knowledge of both the components and the manufacturing processes. These visits, coupled with the technical workshops the company arranges from time to time, enable the staff to maintain a standard of knowledge well above that of our competitors.
1993 saw Masterpieces sponsor the nation-wide tour of the Top Ten oval track cars of the Cape, and this too set new standards of professionalism in motor racing. The early 90`s saw Masterpieces cars win all three titles and become Sprint car, 4 cylinder and V8 champions. Sanctions fell away with the change in Government in 1994, and additional staff was employed as the company grew steadily. The new state-of-the-art computer system was put into use in October 1997, with on-line Internet and e-mail links, and numerous further enhancements are planned. With computer enhancements and the incorporation of videos and graphics, a first in the motor trade of South Africa.
